Battery discharges overnight

A battery that discharges overnight is usually due to one of three reasons: it is worn out, it is not being charged properly, or something draws current after the car is locked. Before buying a new battery, check the entire electrical and charging system, because replacing the battery in a passenger car may only hide the problem temporarily.

Glow plug light flashing, TDI loses power

A flashing glow plug warning light on a TDI diesel usually signals an engine control fault, not immediately faulty glow plugs. If a Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda or Seat loses power, goes into limp mode or responds poorly to the throttle, limit driving and start diagnostics — there can be several causes.

Squeal from under the bonnet after starting the car: what does it mean?

A squeal from under the bonnet after start usually comes from the accessory belt, tensioner, pulleys or the alternator. If the noise lasts only briefly the car can usually be driven carefully. If the squeal grows, returns when steering, lights or air‑conditioning are used, arrange diagnostics before the belt stops driving important components.

Engine overheating: what to do?

If the temperature gauge rises or an overheating warning appears, reduce engine load and stop safely as soon as possible. Do not open the coolant reservoir cap on a hot engine. Continuing to drive can be risky, especially if coolant is leaking or the engine bay feels hot.

Oil warning light: can I drive?

If the red oil warning light comes on, the safest option is to stop the car in a safe place and switch off the engine. Continuing to drive can cause serious engine damage. A yellow oil-level message can be an exception, but even then you should check the oil and watch for symptoms.

Battery warning light while driving

A battery warning light on while driving usually indicates a charging problem rather than a worn battery. The car may still run but uses stored battery energy. When voltage falls, systems can switch off and the engine may stall and fail to restart.
